The Top 10 Registered Dog Breeds in the UK

Following my visit to Crufts last week, and especially looking at the wide variety of breeds at Discover Dogs, I was interested to read about the latest statistics unveiled by The Kennel Club, for the breeds registered in 2018/2019.

So here is a run down of the current Top 10 Breeds, accompanied by some of my favourite images I have taken of each breed.

1. Labrador Retriever (35,347 puppies registered in 2019)

Starting with…as you will probably already have guessed….everyone’s favourite, a great family pet, working dog, show dog, and general good all rounder ….a dog that everyone recognises, and one I’m sure we all know some lovely examples of.

10. Miniature Schnauzer (4,982)

Another German breed of dog whose name appropriately refers to his appearance – “moustache” or “whiskered snout”.

Originally bred to be ratters, these little dogs have become really popular family pets in recent years.Schnauzer - Top 10 Dog Breed Katrina Wilson Dog Photographer-1At the other end of the scale, the UK’s most Vulnerable breed is the Irish Red and White Setter, with only 39 puppies registered last year.  They are one of 30 vulnerable breeds at the risk of disappearing.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing some of the most popular pedigree breeds in the UK at the moment – obviously we haven’t even looked at the so called “designer breeds” like cockerpoos and labradoodles – or the very many crossbreeds currently in Rescue across the country.
